Become a CEU Provider

AOD Counselors in California are required to obtain 40 TAP 21-related continuing education hours every 2 years (9 of those must be in addiction-specific Laws and Ethics). CEU Providers should be CAADE-approved. Providers receive a link on the CAADE website.

They may also purchase additional advertising space at our annual Conference and in the monthly CAADE Newsletter.

If you have questions about becoming a CAADE-approved CEU provider, call our office at 707-722-2331 or email office@caade.org.

Please note: Courses/workshops dealing with laws & ethics and smoking cessation must be pre-approved by CAADE in order to be eligible for approval.

Courses dealing with general ethical issues for clinicians (e.g. dual relationships) will normally be quickly approved. Courses dealing with confidentiality will be carefully screened to ensure that the unique situation involving clinicians who work in addiction treatment (including addiction counselors and licensed mental health professionals) due to the special provisions of CFR 42-part B. These come into play with issues such as mandated reporting, subpoenas, court orders, duty to warn, ROIs, QSOAs, etc.  A course focusing only HIPAA (CFR 45) would not be acceptable, as in most cases CFR 42-part 2 would supersede HIPAA (as of 2021).

An excellent resource for understanding the unique requirements of addiction treatment providers is the Legal Action Center (lac.org).
